Dances with Prostitutes is the story of the author's life after moving to Costa Rica in his mid fifties and, in particular his and other's experiences with prostitutes as well as (occasionally) "regular" girls and his fellow expatriates.
This book is neither porn nor erotica. It necessarily includes sexual content since to try to avoid it would be idiotic and futile. A sincere attempt has been made to give a realistic picture of both the prostitutes, the "profession" and the men who consort with them.
The tone is generally light and humorous, but the darker side is also unavoidable. Still, there are real human beings on both sides and if the reader would like to meet some of them, they can be found here.

The author gives his un-judgemental experiences with girls from the strip clubs of San Jose. Some of the girls are funny or sweet or boring, some are hot looking and some are thieves but whatever their personalities nearly all seem to have one thing in common and that is they have one or more kids and are single mothers.The "Twilight Zone" story is funny while Hooking lessons" is amusing. The last story about the homesick Ana is insightful and her letter to Marvin in her limited English is very touching.

good book
This book was well written and describes an American's adventure in a different culture.
Throughout the book, the author experiences many things, accepts the cultural differences, makes no judgements, avois getting pulled into the drama he encounters, all the while maintaining an objective viewpoint.
Well written stories about the Costa Rica scene. It was obvious that my tastes vary from the authors. I'm not really interested in heavier women that are well worn and past their prime. The book was informative, and an interesting read. I recomend it.
This book is a great resource for the single mans travels in Costa Rica. The author's writing style and perception leads to great insight into working girls' mentalities and life experiences. Highly recommended !
I read the author's blog and like his ability to humanize both the working ladies and the mongers. That carries over into this collection of vignettes based on various encounters in the "Gringo Gulch".
This is simply a series of vignettes about the author's paid encounters in Costa Rica. While it is initially interesting, it quickly recedes to monotony.
The writing style is basic. There is little character development and even less insight into the motives and lives of the characters.
