Ireland and Poland A Comparison TW Rolleston 9781533696199 Books Reviews
There are many similarities between Ireland and Poland in their history. Not a whole lot of detail or comparison between the two countries. Very disappointing.
This book should be an obvious reading for Irish students to encourage them to learn more eagerly their own language, especially now when they are sharing their schools with so many polish people. This is a good book to recognize character of polish people but there is no reason to be proud because of it.
I found this piece fascinating and very well-written. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the history of either of these nations.
Irish and Polish know full well the feeling of abandonment and oppression by bullying countries. Poland and Ireland are today working together for a better quality of life in the their countries. Both a very proud and fighting people for what's right.
Google "Irish Workers Warm to Warsaw," and "The Irish Polish Society."
Slawn lot (Phonetic Irish-Gaelic for Good-Bye); In Polish Czesc, pronounced Cheshch, is used in the informal context to say Hello/Good-bye. Similar to the way the Italians use Ciao. In Sweden we say Vi Ses.
Slawn, Cheshch, Vi ses and Ciao for now!
Excellent, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Fascinating bit of history. Essentially a 1917 British attempt to persuade that the centuries old discrimination and persecution of Irish Catholics had ended and therefore they have no reason to demand independence. The German 'persecution' of ethic Poles is set against the then current 'benign' rule from London. Clearly the Irish were not impressed by the argument and eventually Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 led to partition of Ireland into the North remaining part of the UK and South achieving independence.
